Description

This Homemade Salisbury Steak offers a delightful blend of flavors with beef, oats, and a rich mushroom gravy. Perfect for a quick dinner, it’s a simple yet satisfying meal that brings comfort to any table.

Ingredients

  • beef
  • oats
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • milk
  • butter
  • onion
  • mushrooms
  • tomato paste
  • flour
  • broth
  • wine

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine beef, oats, Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and milk gently.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, about ½-inch thick, and place on a parchment-lined tray.
  3. Cover loosely and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 3 minutes each.
  5. Transfer the patties to a plate once browned.
  6. In the same skillet, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat, then add onion and cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  7. Add mushrooms and ½ teaspoon salt; continue cooking for about 5 more minutes.
  8. Stir in tomato paste and flour, cooking for an additional 2 minutes. Gradually pour in the broth and wine, stirring constantly.
  9. Bring the mixture to a simmer and return the browned patties to the skillet.
  10. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until patties are cooked through. Taste and season the gravy with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the patties marinate longer in the refrigerator.
Serve this dish with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
