- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups butter (softened)
- 6 eggs
- 1 ½ tbsp vanilla
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tbsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup butter (softened)
- 4 cups confectioner's sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2–3 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
- Spray four 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs and 1 ½ tbsp vanilla extract, then beat the mixture again until combined.
- Incorporate the flour, baking powder, and salt, then mix well.
- Gradually pour in the milk while continuously mixing until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly into 4 bowls.
- Add a different color of food coloring gel to each bowl and mix until desired vibrancy is achieved.
- Transfer each colored batter into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool for 15 minutes before flipping them out onto parchment paper, then cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter and confectioner's sugar together until crumbly.
- Add 1 tsp vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk, then mix until desired consistency is achieved. Add more milk if needed.
- Assemble the cake by layering the colored cake layers with frosting in between each layer.
- Top the cake with frosting and sprinkles.
Notes
For best results, ensure your ingredients are at room temperature before beginning.
