Description

  • 2 cups freshly milled whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and brown sugar.
  2. Warm the milk and mix it with the melted butter, then let it cool slightly.
  3. In another bowl, mix the cinnamon, salt, and yeast together.
  4. Add the cooled milk mixture to the flour and sugar, then add the eggs and yeast mixture.
  5. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  6. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread a thin layer of butter on top.
  8. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar evenly over the dough, adding raisins and nuts if desired.
  9. Roll up the dough tightly and cut it into rolls.
  10. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  11. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Allow cooling slightly before serving.

Using freshly milled flour enhances flavor and nutrition.
