Description

This Breakfast Casserole is perfect for a festive morning. Enjoy layers of savory sausage, cheddar cheese, and fluffy eggs beautifully combined for a mouthwatering meal. Ideal for sharing with family, it offers a simple prep process that will delight everyone at the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 10 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 cups cubed bread
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced red pepper optional
  • sliced green onion optional

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13x2-inch casserole dish.
  2. Cook sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned and no longer pink, stirring frequently.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together beaten eggs, milk, and fine sea salt until well combined.
  4. Layer half of the cubed bread in the prepared casserole dish, followed by half the cheese, half the black pepper, and half the sausage. Repeat these layers.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the layered casserole evenly.
  6. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight, or bake immediately if preferred.
  7. Preheat the oven to 325°F when ready to bake. Bake uncovered for 60-75 minutes, until eggs are completely set. If necessary, cover the top with foil to prevent over-browning.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle with sliced green onions before serving and enjoy warm.

Notes

Feel free to add more vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
This casserole can be prepared a day ahead, making it convenient for busy mornings.
Adjust the level of seasoning to your taste preference, especially if using a flavored sausage.
