Description

Caramel Apple Trifles are a delightful treat combining soft granny smith apples with creamy Cool Whip and rich caramel sauce layered over pound cake. This easy dessert is ideal for any occasion, providing a burst of flavor that is sure to satisfy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 granny smith apples
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • a pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 12 ounces pound cake
  • 8 ounces cool whip
  • 6 tablespoons caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the apples into small cubes and place them in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar to the apples, then stir to combine.
  3. Simmer the mixture over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples soften and sugar transforms into a syrup. Set aside to cool slightly.
  4. Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes.
  5. Fill a piping bag (or zip-top bag with a snipped corner) with Cool Whip.
  6. Layer the trifle in serving glasses or jars, starting with a layer of pound cake cubes, then add a layer of the apple mixture, followed by caramel sauce, and a layer of Cool Whip.
  7. Repeat the layering process one more time, finishing with a drizzle of caramel on top. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using different types of apples or a flavored cake.
Drizzling extra caramel sauce on top right before serving enhances its appeal.
These trifle layers can be made in advance but are best served the same day.
