These Easy Donut Holes are a delightful treat that combines a gooey dough with a crispy exterior. Packed with flavor and made with simple ingredients like all-purpose flour and cream, they make for an irresistible dessert that’s perfect for family gatherings or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 cups vegetable oil
- 2 cups + 2 tablespoons (298g) all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ teaspoons (11g) baking powder
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (237ml) heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup (119ml) whole milk
- Toppings – see notes.
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the heavy whipping cream and milk, stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula until a gooey dough forms.
- Using a cookie scoop, scoop 1 tablespoon balls of dough. You can either drop these directly into the hot oil or chill them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Heat the vegetable oil to 350°F in a 3-quart saucepan. Keep a thermometer on hand to monitor the temperature.
- Fry 3-4 donut holes at a time, and ensure not to overcrowd the pan to maintain the oil temperature. Fry for about 3-5 minutes until they are dark golden brown, flipping halfway through.
- Remove the fried donut holes with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Allow to cool slightly before coating in cinnamon sugar or glazing.
Notes
Ensure to monitor the oil temperature closely while frying.
Experiment with toppings such as powdered sugar or chocolate glaze.
Let donut holes cool briefly before rolling them to prevent the glaze from melting.
