Description

This Homemade Spaghetti Sauce boasts mouthwatering flavor with simple prep. Made with ground beef, tomatoes, and Italian herbs, it’s perfect for a quick dinner or comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 pound ground beef (90/10 or 80/20 lean)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 parmesan cheese rind optional, but recommended
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion, seasoning with salt and black pepper. Cook until browned, then drain excess grease.
  2. Stir in the tomato paste, garlic, worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs. Cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Fill the empty cans with water, swirl to catch remaining sauce, and pour into the pot.
  4. Mix in the sugar and balsamic vinegar, then add the Parmesan cheese rind. Bring the mixture to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. After simmering, stir in the chopped fresh basil. Serve over noodles or let cool for storage.

Notes

For added richness, allow the sauce to simmer longer than 30 minutes.
This sauce can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for longer storage.
Feel free to adjust the herbs to your taste or add more vegetables.
