Description

Savor the delightful Red, White and Blue Fruit Salad. This simple and colorful summer dish combines fresh fruits for a sweet and healthy treat perfect for gatherings or picnics.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small seedless watermelon or 1/2 of a large watermelon
  • 8 apples optionally reserve 1 for making stars
  • 1/2 yellow honeydew melon
  • 4 cups strawberries stems removed
  • 2 cups raspberries
  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 1 cup red grapes
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice per 1 cup of water for soaking apples

Instructions

  1. Wash all fruit and allow to dry.
  2. Cut watermelon, apples, and honeydew melon into small squares. Halve or quarter strawberries if needed. If not serving immediately, soak sliced apples in a lemon juice water mixture for at least 10 minutes (1 tablespoon of lemon juice per 1 cup of water).
  3. Layer blueberries and blackberries at the top left of your serving dish, then alternate layers of red, white, and red fruits horizontally. Repeat until all fruits are arranged to your preference.
  4. Use a star cookie cutter to cut 1 apple into star shapes and place them on top of the blueberry layer to complete the flag design.

Notes

For a festive touch, use star-shaped fruit cutters for decorations.
Soaking apples in lemon juice helps to prevent browning and keeps them fresh longer.
This salad can be made ahead of time. Just keep the fruits refrigerated and assembled close to serving.
